FROM SEVERAL US GOVERNORS.

Azerbaijan Society of America, a US-based Azeri
Diaspora organization has received proclamations from
several US Governors and senators. This was reported
by the president of the organization, Ms. Tomris
Azeri. She informed that the governor of Missouri Bob
Holden, Governor of Pensilvania Mark Schweiker and
Acting Governor of New Jersey Donald T. DiFrancesco
have sent proclamations to Azerbaijan Society of
America in connection with the 10th anniversary of
Azerbaijan Republic, proclaiming October 18 as
Republic of Azerbaijan Independence Day. New Jersey
Senator Corzine has also sent a proclamation. "These
proclamations are an important sign of growing ties
between Azeri Diaspora in the US and the American
federal and local governments. It is especially
important at this moment, when there is an increasing
pressure to repeal Section 907 of Freedom Support
Act"- said Ms. Azeri.

Azerbaijan Society of America has celebrated the 10th
anniversary of Azerbaijan Republic's Independence with
a ceremony on October 20, 2001 in New Jersey. The
event was attended by 280 guests from all over the
United States, including such key states as Texas,
Massachusets, Pensilvania, New York, Washington DC and
New Jersey. New York city Mayor Giuliani's assistant
Linda Gras was also among the guests to personally
introduce a note from the mayor congratulating all
Azerbaijanis on this special occasion.

During the celebration, Azerbaijan Society of America
has honored Azeri ambassador to the US Dr. Hafiz
Pashayev with an award to acknowledge his contribution
to strengthening the Azeri Diaspora in the US and
around the world. Beginning of the event, the US and
Azerbaijan's national anthems were performed.

Azerbaijan Society of America will continue its work
and activities on promoting Azerbaijan's interests in
the US and strengthening Azeri Diaspora in this
country.
